Electrical Engineering and Automation(International Class) of 2011 of the School of International Co-education Honoured as 'class with best academic spirit' by Office of Teaching Management

In the evening of May 25th, 15 classes of Electrical Engineering of Faculty of Arts participated in the most important activity of the year---contest of ‘class with best academic spirit’. International Class was the last one to step on the stage and deliver their presentation.
Against the majestic background of Google earth, Tong Baoying, the monitor started to introduce the overall conditions of the class: ’Nine months ago, 17 classmates of our class gathered along the Songhua River, composing the only class of the school. We took ‘Strictness, Proficiency’ as the study principle. A year later, we will gather along the coastline of Sydney with ‘Ever-changing stars, wisdom last forever’ as our pursuit.
The video was divided into six parts: Party construction, class construction, life out of classroom, scientific innovation, establishment of English activity and final conclusion.
For a year, many students of the class have submitted the application for Party membership and taken the Party classes; Yu Tianhe was awarded with the first-level scholarship of the university, ranked second in the major of Electrical Engineering with the average score of 95.3.
He gave an introduction to the class emblem, class motto and the contributions made by every member of the class under the guidelines of ‘owning, governing, sharing with each other’. Among the many honours won by the class, the most significant achievement is that in CET4,the average score of the class is 530.59 with the passing rate of 100% and 41% classmates qualified for the oral test which left other 14 classes far behind. Besides, monitor Tong, has passed the IELTS in advance in April.
For scientific innovation, the students have all taken an active part in projects proposal and they have got three projects approved. Currently, all the projects have passed the mid-term check. Besides, Li Ce, though missed the period to get project approval, set an example for others in the class. He has devoted all his spare time to the experiments and turned his dorm into a lab as well with his self-made four-rotator aircraft a great success. On seeing the aircraft flying freely in the sky, the audience applauded loudly for him.
To create a good environment for English learning, many activities have been held such as Halloween party with senior students; presents-exchanging on Christmas; discussion on current affairs; writing comments on films; friendship party of overseas students, etc. These activities have not only improved their English levels, but also enriched their extracurricular life.
At last he pointed out that: ‘Looking back to the year past, we cherish the friendship of classmates; and are grateful for the teachers’ care; we cherish the existing and ever-lasting friendship of all the classes of Electrical Engineering. Today, we are standing at the critical juncture with joy and hope in all the hearts. He cited a poem by a British poet as conclusion and read it out passionately: ‘The sun rises slowly ahead, how slow; Please look at the west, however, that the earth is, a piece of brilliance.’ The audience applauded again as his words ended.
In the Q&A session, when asked if he could make a conclusion in English to show the English level of the class, he cited Gettysburg speech of President Lincoln as his answer and the wonderful performance also aroused cheers from the audience.
Finally, International Class of 2011 was honoured as ‘Class with Best Academic Spirit’ which is the best recognition of works done by the class for nearly a year. We have enough reasons to believe that the united International Class of 2011 will overcome the difficulties in the future and create a brighter tomorrow!
